AIA Continuing Education at the RD Academy

For more than half a century, RD Coatings has formulated and manufactured high-performance waterborne protective coatings in Belgium. What began as a pioneering choice in the 1960s is now a proven technology, specified on five continents and trusted on landmark projects from the Boston subway and Wellesley College to the Øresund Bridge between Denmark and Sweden.

As an AIA Continuing Education Provider, RD Academy shares this expertise with architects. Our courses help you specify durable, low-impact coatings with confidence, and you earn AIA learning units along the way.

Why waterborne? Four benefits for everyone on your project

1Lower environmental impact
Waterborne coatings release far less solvent into the air, and their VOC content is a fraction of that of comparable solvent-borne systems. They work with cleaner surface preparation methods, can cut material waste by two to three times, and tools clean up with water alone.
2Safer jobsites, healthier interiors
There is no fire risk from flammable solvents, and VOC emissions are up to ten times lower. Because the coatings are virtually odorless, work can go on in occupied buildings, interiors and confined spaces with minimal disruption. Documented emission data supports projects pursuing LEED or BREEAM certification.
3Performance without compromise
Accredited laboratories have tested our systems extensively, and they have proven themselves in the field. They protect as well as solvent-borne coatings. RD-Monoguard, for example, is certified ISO 12944 C5 Very High. To our knowledge, it is the only single-component waterborne coating to reach this class.
4Easier application, higher productivity
Most of our coatings are single-component and gentle on the substrate, which makes work on site simpler. That makes them a natural fit for restoring historic structures and preserving landmark buildings of every size.
